Head of Department
Leif-Rune Gausereide, MSc
(Senior Engineering Geologist)
 

Gausereide
is the Chief Engineering Geologist.
He has been consultant in rock engineering since 1980.

The work performed has been:

  • Geological mapping
  • Engineering geological design
  • Evaluation of site investigation data
  • Evaluation of rock excavation methods
  • Evaluation of rock support and grouting methods
  • Implementation of rock mechanic test programmes and groundwater control measures

The projects include hydropower projects, road tunnels, underground oil and LPG storages and subsea tunnel piercings (lake taps).

From 1986-92 he was stationed in Chile as responsible Engineering Geologist for the Alfalfal Hydropower Project. Major problems were rock burst, squeezing and large water ingress with pressures up to 100 bar.

Later projects abroad include:

  • Underground fuel and gas storage facilities in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Portugal
  • Hydropower plants in Namibia, China, Pakistan, Laos and Nepal
  • Lake taps at Koyna Hydropower Project, India
  • Headrace tunnel at Ralco, Chile

Jan Bergh-Christensen, Dr.Ing.
(Senior Engineering Geologist)
 

Bergh-Christensen
has more than 40 years consulting experience in the fields of engineering geology and rock engineering.

Major fields of expertise include:

  • Site investigations
  • Design and supervision during construction
  • Project manager for offshore and costal marine surveys

He has also experience from management positions in a consulting engineering company specialized in geo-investigations.

The projects include hydropower plants, water supply, subway-, railway- and road tunnels, rock caverns for storage, water treatment, sewage treatment and military installations.

Many of the projects have been abroad, particularly in South East Asia.

He has authored/co-authored 30 papers and publications to professional journals, conferences and seminars.

Eirikur Freyr Einarsson, MSc
(Engineering Geologist)

Einarsson
Nationality is Icelandic and he has practiced as engineering geologist since 2001. Employment in Norconsult since 2009.

Experience includes:

  • Engineering geological field mapping
  • Supervision of site investigations
  • Feasibility evaluation and design of tunnels in hard and weak rock mass including young volcanic rock
  • Evaluation of rock mechanical properties, analytical and numerical stress and deformation analyses of rock masses
  • Evaluation of groundwater flow and seepage in tunnels
  • Site supervision of tunnel, surface excavation and rock support
  • Urban planning and foundation design in areas with volcanic and seismic activity and potentially active faults
  • Geotechnical investigations and evaluations
  • Evaluation of building material and quarries for roads and general fill

The projects include hydropower projects, geothermal power projects, roads and road tunnels, subsea tunnel piercing, foundations, quarries and heavy industry sites.


Jˇhann Írn Fri­steinsson, MSc

Started in the firm in 2009.

Experience includes:

  • Geological and engineering geological field mapping
  • Core logging
  • Preparation of engineering geological reports and drawings
  • 2D numerical modeling of rock stresses
  • Evaluation of building material and quarries for dam fills

Hanne Knudsmoen, MSc
(Engineering Geologist)
 

Knudsmoen
has been with the firm since 2003.

She has experience from:

  • Engineering geological field mapping
  • Preparing of engineering geological reports and drawings
  • Numerical stress analysis.
  • Preparing of tender documents to various types of projects.
  • Supervision of tunnel excavation, rock support and assistance to site management
  • Rock mass classification

The projects include hydropower plants, road- and railway tunnels and construction pits.

Jan Idar Kollstr°m, MSc
(Senior Engineering Geologist)
 

Kollstr°m
has more than 25 years of experience in civil and structural design and Site follow-up comprising both above and underground structures and excavation works.

Experience includes a wide range of activities within management, design, tendering, contract negotiations, supervision/inspection and rock engineering for road tunnels, sub-sea tunnels, TBM-tunnels, hydropower plants, underground fuel storage plants, submerged piercing, underground facilities.

Experience comprises design of rock excavations, rock support and grouting works, structural design, rock mechanics and structural analyses, cost and resource planning, constructions methods and scheduling.

Kollstr°m has extensive long-term experience from on site technical and contractual follow-up from all over the world. Latest assignments include Chile, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, China.

Morten A. Lund, MSc

Lund
has worked as engineering geologist since 1985.

The work performed has been:

  • Geological design and cost estimates
  • Tender documents concerning engineering geology
  • Evaluation of rock support and grouting works
  • Careful blasting
  • Work description and quantities
  • Resident engineering geologist during construction

The projects include road- and railway tunnels (also subsea tunnels), hydropower and cavern projects, airport projects, rock plug cofferdam and lake taps.

Projects abroad include:

  • Underground storage facilities in Saudi-Arabia
  • Several underground projects in Hong Kong

Thomas K. Mathiesen, MSc
(Engineering Geologist)
 

Mathiesen
has been with the firm since 1999.

Experience includes:

  • Feasibility evaluation and design of underground space in hard and weak rock mass
  • Evaluation of rock mechanical properties, analytical and numerical stress and deformation analyses of rock masses
  • Site supervision of tunnel excavation, rock support and assistant site management
  • Evaluation of rock support and grouting methods
  • Supervision of core drilling and seismic survey

The projects include rock fall and avalanche protection, evaluation of slope stability, hydropower projects, road- and railway tunnels, subsea tunnel piercing, onshore gas treatment plant.

Andreas Ongstad

Andreas Ongstad, MSc

started in the firm in 2008.

Arild Palmstr÷m, Dr.Scient.
(Senior Engineering Geologist)
 

Palmström
has 40 years of experience in the fields of rock engineering and engineering geology.

His PhD work included the development of RMi (Rock Mass index) - a rock mass characterization system for rock engineering purposes.

Fields of expertise are:

  • Geological and engineering geological mapping
  • Planning and supervision of field investigations
  • Conceptual and feasibility studies
  • Planning and design of rock excavation works
  • Evaluation of rock support and grouting works
  • Working out of tender documents

International experience includes:

  • Hydropower projects in Turkey, Greenland, China, Chile, Bhutan and Pakistan

Tyssekvam
is working at Norconsult's office in Trondheim, where he is a part of the division for Transportation and Spatial Planning.

He has worked as engineering geologist since 1997, and has experience as site control engineer at 4 road tunnels (one subsea tunnel) and one railway tunnel..

Experience includes:

  • Planning and supervising various types of rock support and grouting works
  • Engineering geological mapping
  • Planning and supervision of field investigations

Anders Kr. Vik, MSc

Vik
has worked as engineering geologist since 1989 and has experience from engineering geological design and cost evaluation for the feasibility, conceptual design and detail design phases.

The work performed has been::

  • Preparation of tender documents, technical specifications and bill of quantities
  • Design of rock support and grouting works
  • Detailed engineering geological tunnel mapping
  • Slope stability evaluations in hard rock
  • Design, contracting, follow-up and reporting of ground investigations
  • Construction management, site supervision and control of dams, road-, railway and waterpipe tunnels.

Projects include road- and railway tunnels (also subsea tunnels), hydropower projects, high rock slopes and construction pits in hard rock, rock caverns and water supply projects.
